SOUL project holds first meeting of its Multi-Actor Advisory Panel

On 29 September 2026, the SOUL project held the kick-off meeting of its Multi-Actor Advisory Panel (MAP) online, bringing together project partners and external stakeholders with expertise and experience across different sectors and value chains.

The first SOUL MAP meeting  marked the beginning of a collaborative space for exchange, feedback and co-creation, designed to connect SOUL activities and emerging results with real-world perspectives, needs and expertise throughout the project.

The MAP is a voluntary and flexible space for engagement, where members can contribute according to their expertise, interests and availability. Through meetings, thematic exchanges and targeted consultations, the MAP will help SOUL integrate external perspectives and stakeholder needs, gather feedback on project activities and emerging results, and explore challenges and opportunities related to the practical implementation, uptake and replication of SOUL solutions.

At the same time, participation in the MAP offers members the opportunity to stay connected with relevant SOUL developments, exchange directly with project partners and other stakeholders, explore topics related to bio-based and biodegradable-in-soil solutions, and build connections with other actors, networks and initiatives.

A first exchange on priorities and challenges

The kick-off meeting provided an opportunity for participants to get to know each other, learn more about SOUL and discuss how the MAP can contribute to the project.

The discussion already highlighted a number of topics that could be further explored through future MAP exchanges. These included certification and existing certification schemes for new formulations, the state of the art and future applications of biodegradable and compostable materials, and questions around the economic feasibility and uptake of new solutions, including the possible role of different policy instruments.

These first contributions will help inform future discussions, while the topics addressed through the MAP will continue to evolve according to project progress, emerging needs and the expertise and interests of its members.

What comes next?

MAP engagement will combine regular meetings with additional thematic sessions and targeted exchanges when relevant. This flexible approach will allow SOUL to involve MAP members on specific topics where their knowledge and experience can provide valuable perspectives.

The first thematic meeting is planned for December 2026 and will focus on European policies and the bioeconomy, with the European Bioeconomy Bureau (EBB). The session will combine an update on relevant policy developments with an exchange with MAP members on their possible implications for SOUL, its stakeholders and the future uptake of its solutions.

A further thematic exchange in 2027 is expected to contribute to the ongoing development and refinement of the SOUL Training Programme, building on the needs, knowledge gaps and barriers identified through the project’s Ex-Ante Analysis and stakeholder feedback.

The MAP continues to grow

The SOUL MAP will continue to develop throughout the project, with the aim of building a diverse and well-balanced group representing complementary expertise, sectors and perspectives, while remaining focused and effective.

SOUL therefore welcomes expressions of interest from stakeholders who would like to contribute their expertise and experience. Expressions of interest will be considered in relation to the evolving composition of the MAP and the perspectives needed throughout the project.
